Teen Disco Themed Party
Ages: Teens
Invitation Ideas:
Make an invitation that has the silhouette of a disco dancer on
it, add the party information on the inside. Encourage guests to
come to the party in their best disco garb. For girls this often
included halter cat suits, hot pants, Trouser suits, shorts and
knee high athletic socks, and pigtails. For guys leisure suits,
satin jackets and medallion necklaces were popular at discos. Both
guys and girls can wear platform shoes and mood rings.
Decorations:
You will definitely want strobe lights and at least one disco ball
to hang from the ceiling. If you can get a fog machine, the teens
will enjoy it as well. Add beaded curtains to doorways and
balloons and streamers in 70s inspired colors like orange, yellow,
and brown. Put up posters of hit movies and TV shows of the era,
some of the more popular ones were Jaws, Rocky, Star Wars,
Peanuts, Saturday Night Fever, Charlie’s Angels.
Games &
Activities:
At a disco themed party there has to be some dancing. Line dances
like the electric slide were very popular and are easy to learn.
Mix popular 70’s songs in with the guest of honors favorites. Some
good songs are: Dancing Queen by ABBA, We are Family by Sister
Sledge, The Hustle by Van McCoy, Stayin’ Alive by The Bee Gees,
The Loco-Motion by Grand Funk, The YMCA by the Village People, and
Bennie and the Jets by Elton John. Have a dance-off and award
prizes for the most creative, most hip etc. dancers.
Decorate a Pet Rock
Pet rocks were all the rage in the 70’s let the teens use paint
markers to add faces to their own pet rock.
Food
Fondue was popular. You could do one pot with cheese and serve
crackers, chips, bread, pretzels and small sausages with it. In
another fondue pot you could melt chocolate and serve cookies,
strawberries, large marshmallows, small cakes and peanut butter
balls with it. Other popular party foods for the 70’s were quiche,
meatballs, casseroles, and kabobs. You could also make Jell-o that
looks like lava lamps. Make the jell-o as directed on the package
except add mini marshmallows just after the cold water and pour it
into long tall glasses.
