Sponge Bob Square Pants Birthday Party Theme

Ages: 3 to 7

Invitation and Decoration Ideas:

Using yellow cardstock, make cards that look like Sponge Bob. This can be done easily with squiggly eyes. Then add arms and legs with some extra paper. For decorations make a room feel like the ocean by hanging blue streamers and pictures of sea creatures from the ceiling. Use pineapples as table decorations (since Sponge Bob lives in a pineapple).

Games and Activities:

Make sand dough for the kids to play with. It is made by mixing 1 cup of white glue with 2 cups flour, 2 cups sand and 2 cups of water. If you have a lot of kids attending the party you may want to consider making more than one batch. Put the sand in a wading pool and provide the kids with sand toys to play with.

Play catch the jellyfish. Before the party, make jellyfish by blowing up a few small red, pink and purple balloons. Attach matching ribbon to make them look like jellyfish. At the party ask the kids to partner up and give each team a beach towel. Show them that they can catch and toss a jellyfish using the towel. Put a few jellyfish in some of the towels and turn on music. The kids have to toss the jellyfish to each other and when the music stops, those who have a jellyfish in their towel have been stung and sit out for a round.

While the kids are playing catch the jellyfish, hide seashells with numbers written on them in the sand dough. Smooth out the sand then let each kid find a seashell. The number correlates to a specific prize.

Food Ideas:

Serve Krabby Patties (hamburgers), fries (also served at the Krusty Krab where Sponge Bob works), ice cream sundaes are also a Sponge Bob favorite. You could provide the kids with a bunch of toppings to make their own sundaes. You could also have goldfish crackers and gummies that look like fish. Put food items in large conch shell bowls, or even clean fish bowls. You could also make a cake that looks like a krabby patty.
