Sailor Themed Party

Ages: 3 to 10

Invitations:

Make your invitation in the shape of a sailboat, life preserver or sailor’s hat and write the information on the inside. See how to make a Paper Sail Boat.

Decoration Ideas

Think red, white and blue for a color scheme. Put out play boats and any other nautical themed items you may have like lighthouses, flags, fishing poles, rubber ducks, life jackets, binoculars etc. Set up a few kiddie pools or large tubs and float boats in them. Set out sailor hats for the kids to wear while at the party.

Craft Ideas

Provide the kids with popsicle sticks, paper, crayons, glue and glitter and let them make a boat.

They can also make a Paper Sail Boat.

You could also make hats out of newspaper and provide the kids with items to decorate them.

The kids can also make their own telescopes out of paper towel tubes.

Game Ideas

Have the kids do boat races with the boats they make or toy boats you already have. Have the kids at one end of the pool or tub and let them blow on the boats. The first boat to the other side wins.

Set up a fishing hole by putting a blue sheet over a clothes line or porch railing. Give the kids fishing poles (sticks with a string attached) and have them throw the line into the watering hole (over the sheet). Have someone behind the sheet attach small prizes to each line.

Sailor Dress Up Relay

Divide the kids into groups of at least four. Have them line up at one end of the party area. At the other end put out a life preserver, sailor hat, and toy binoculars for each group. When you tell the kids to start the first kid runs down, puts the items on and then runs back. Then next kid in line must take the items from the first kid and put them on, then run down to the other end and remove the items and leave them there. They then run back to their group and the next person runs down and puts the items on. This continues until everyone on the team has worn the items at least once.

Food Ideas

Make sailboat snacks by cutting an apple in quarters. Put a toothpick in the center and add a piece of fruit roll cut in a triangle as a sail on the toothpick. You can turn little sandwiches into sailboats with this idea as well. Offer fish sticks, fish shaped crackers, and gummy fish in a blue punch. Make the cake in the shape of a sailboat and make cookies shaped like fish to put out underneath the cake. You could also make a round cake look like a life preserver.
