Over the Hill Birthday Party Theme
Ages: Grown Ups/Adults
Invitations:
Make a card that looks like a clock. Write the numbers on it
backwards. On the inside write the birthday person’s name followed
by “wishes they could turn back time, but another birthday is
coming up!” Add the party information.

Decorations
Black is the color of choice for over the hill themed parties. Use
black balloons and streamers. Tie bundles of balloons to canes and
put them in the corners of the party area. Another fun way to
decorate is by putting out older, antique looking items. Another
fun twist is to look up items that were invented or introduced the
year the guest of honor was born and use them in the decorations
as centerpieces etc. You can add small labels that give the day
that these items came out. Halloween decorations also usually work
well in an over the hill theme.
Games and Activities:
Set up a DVD of pictures of the guest of honor over the years
along with stories from their life. Let guests watch it while
enjoying the food.
On small slips of paper write down the names of famous people that
were born the same year as the birthday boy/girl. You can also
write down the names of characters from movies that were popular
that same year. Put them in a hat or bowl. Divide everyone into
two groups. A person from the first group is given the bowl. They
have a minute to get their teammates to guess as many of the
people as they can. You can use gestures and give clues, but you
can’t say any part of the person’s name. When the minute is up
write down how many were guessed correctly and then the next team
goes. Play until you’ve run out of names.
Food Ideas:
Decorate a cake so that it looks like it has a big green hill. Put
the words “Over the Hill” in big white letters across the top.
Provide the guest of honors favorite food and dishes. You can also
offer prune juice and oatmeal in small amounts to add a little
humor.
