Horse Birthday Party Theme
Ages: 4 to 7
Invitation and Decoration Ideas:
Make an invitation in the shape of a horse shoe and write
something like,
"You're in luck, you've been invited to (child's name) birthday
party."
Another option is to make a card that has a barnyard on the front,
and then attach a small plastic horse to it.
For decorations put out hay bales, red streamers, use horse shoes
as balloon weights, and straw hats or cowboy hats on the walls. On
the food table decorate by putting horse figures in the center
along with a bunch of balloons.
Games and Activities:
Have a stick horse race. You can get stick horses at a toy
store or make your own. Divide the kids into two groups and have
them run down to a certain point "riding" on the horse and then
come back and give the horse to the next person.
Play pin the tail on the Horse. Make an enlarged picture of
a horse and cut out tails. Blindfold a child and let them try to
get the tail on the picture in the right place.
Go on a horse trail ride. Cut horseshoe shapes out of paper
and attach them to the ground. Tell the kids that on this ride
they are looking for some items. Hide things along the trail, like
a cowboy hat, small horse figures, a picture of a saddle, a
bandana etc. Have them look for the items and at the end of the
trail have their goodie bags waiting for them.
Get a plastic horseshoe set. Set it up and teach the kids
how to play.
Get small wood horseshoes (found at most craft stores)
provide the kids with glitter, glue, markers, and other items to
decorate their horseshoes.
Give each child a large pile of sugar cubes. Start a minute
timer and have the kids start building a sugar cube tower. The kid
that builds the tallest tower wins a small prize.
Rides. If possible have the party some place where the kids
can take a short ride on a pony.
Food Ideas:
Get licorice strings and make them look like lassos. Put these on
top of frosted cupcakes. Serve western style foods like hot dogs,
baked beans and root beer floats. Serve cookies and sandwiches in
the shape of horseshoes.
