Backyardigans Theme Party
Ages: 2 to 5
Invitation and Decoration Ideas:
Make a card with a picture of one of the characters. Write,
"Bring your imagination and join (child's name) for a birthday
party."
Decorate the party area to look like the backyard found in the
show. Put out Backyardigan toys, and primary colored balloons and
streamers.
Games and Activities:
The premise of the Backyardigans is pretend play. So
provide the kids with dress up clothes and let them get dressed up
and play together. You may want to provide a few other items like
a large box that they can pretend is a house.
Music is also a big part of the Backyardigans, so gather
items like paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes, paper plates,
cardboard containers, popsicle sticks and rubber bands. Help the
kids create their own musical instruments and decorate them. Then
gather them together and have a parade.
Play Follow Pablo (very similar to follow the leader).
Have a dance contest. Play your child's favorite songs and
encourage the kids to dance. Give out prizes to each child for
their dancing with titles like, "Most energetic, most graceful,
most unique etc."
Print off a few coloring pages of the Backyardigans and let
the kids color.
Play an episode of the Backyardigans while you are
preparing the food.
Food Ideas:
Make ice cubes out of different colors of punch. Put the colors in
clear cups and pour lemon lime soda over it to make rainbow punch.
Serve foods that spark the imagination like "smiles" (two slices
of apple, with peanut butter spread on one side and marshmallows
as the teeth), boats (hot dogs with a pretzel stick stuck in the
middle and a cheese slice as the sail), different shaped cookies
and of course cake and ice cream.
