Arthur Birthday Party Theme

Ages: 3 to 7

Invitation and Decoration Ideas:

For an invitation create a card that has the word "Hey!" in big letters on the front. On the inside write

"What a wonderful kind of day
to celebrate (child's name) birthday."

This is similar to the Arthur theme song!

Use pictures of the characters from Arthur to decorate the party area. Tie balloons around a stack of books and set them around the party area.

Games and Activities:

Reading: One of the main premises of the Arthur show is that reading is fun. So what would be better than getting a parent to read a couple of Arthur books? Do this as the kids are arriving. Be sure to pick someone who reads well and will make it interesting for the kids.

Before the party make books for each of the kids cutting 8 ½ x 11 inch paper so that it measures 8 ½ x 5 ½ inches. Fold two to three papers in half together then staple at the fold so that you have a book. Provide the kids with crayons and markers to create their own book.

Play the Become Bionic Bunny game. Put these items in a large bag: bunny ears, red sheet or cape, red hat, and watch. Turn on music and have the kids pass the bag while the music plays. When the music stops, the person holding the bag has to put on one of the items. The person wearing the fewest superhero items wins a prize.

Play pin the glasses on Arthur. Print off a large picture of Arthur's face and make copies of his glasses. Blindfold a child and have them try to get the glasses in the right place.

Play Mrs. McGrady's Lunch Relay. Divide the kids into two teams Give each team a tray. At the other end of the room have items like an empty and cleaned out milk carton, juice carton, pretend sandwich, chips, French fries, and so on. The first kid must go down and get an item then run the tray back to their team mates. The next person goes down and gets another item. Each item has a point value based on how good it is for you; fruits, vegetables and milk are 5 points, juice, sandwich and rolls are 3; French fries and other junk food are 1. Add up the points to find out which team wins.

Food Ideas:

Arthur, Buster and their friends love to go and have ice cream together. Provide the kids with all sorts of toppings and different ice cream flavors so that they can create a tasty treat. Provide other munchies and snacks as well as punch.
