Taking Great Birthday Party Photos
You've worked hard to plan the perfect birthday party for your
loved one. Everything is in perfect order -- the invitations,
decorations, presents, and cake. You've got the perfect location
and you're ready for party time! Or are you? Another extremely
important aspect of a great party is the pictures. You'll want to
preserve these memories for years to come, which is why good
pictures are so important. Anyone can take mediocre snapshots, but
who wants that? You want your birthday party photos to be as good
as possible. Here are some tips for great picture taking:
* Choose a good camera. This doesn't mean you have to spend
a fortune. However, you're at least going to want a nice digital
camera with four or more megapixels. The higher the megapixels,
the better quality the pictures will be. A digital camera is
preferable to a film camera because you can see your pictures
immediately after taking them. If the picture isn't perfect, erase
it and try again!
* Understand the settings on your camera. One important
setting is white balance. If you're using the flash on your
camera, set the white balance to flash. Or, simply set it on auto
and it will adjust itself accordingly. Another setting on many
digital cameras is zoom. Some have digital zoom, others have
digital and optical zoom. Experiment with the various settings on
your camera before the day of the party.
* Before snapping a picture, size up your setting. Figure
out the best angle at which to capture your subject. Remove any
unsightly or errant items from the setting before taking the
picture. Experiment with different poses and arrangements for best
results. Also, be sure to pay attention to the background. Solid,
neutral backgrounds are best.
* Go for creative use of color and light. For example, a
colorful bunch of balloons makes a whimsical and fun photo. Make
sure to get a picture of the birthday cake. You may want to get
one of it before the candles are lit, and one of it while the
candles are lit. A candid photo of the birthday boy or girl
blowing out the candles is always a great shot!
* Babies and young children plus cake always makes for a
perfect photo opportunity. Every parent needs at least one great
photo of their little one enjoying a big piece of birthday cake
without regard for neatness!
* With a digital camera, it's easy to edit and enhance
pictures before printing or sharing them. Try a software program
such as Photoshop or the software that came with your camera. You
can remove red-eye, crop and rotate pictures, change the size, and
even adjust the color.
* Disposable cameras make great party favors for guests.
This way, each guest can capture their own special memories of the
party. Kids and adults alike will love snapping their own shots of
the party, each other, and of course the person having the
birthday!
