Treasure Hunts
Plan a treasure hunt trail in advance and print out maps with easy
directions on them. Hand over to the kids and let them look for
hidden treasures on the route as well as goody bags at the end of
the trail. Ideas for some themed treasure hunts are:
Cowboy/Horse Theme: Cut horseshoe shapes out of paper
and attach them to the ground. Tell the kids that on this ride
they are looking for some items. Hide things along the trail, like
a cowboy hat, small horse figures, a picture of a saddle, a
bandana etc. Have them look for the items and at the end of the
trail have their goodie bags waiting for them.
Dora the Explorer Theme: Make an easy treasure hunt
straight from a Dora episode. Makeshift 'puzzle bridge', 'red
mountain', 'Benny's barn', 'crocodile lake' etc. will be the
important points on the map and the map will lead them to their
Dora goodie bags.
Pirate Theme: Have pictures of a ship, a talking parrot, a
pirate flag make up the important points and lead the treasure
hunters to a wooden chest filled with goodie bags for each.
Beach Theme: Write numbers on seashells and hide them in
purchased sand and let the kids dig up one seashell each. The
number on each seashell will correspond to a prize waiting for
them.
